Indian legend Sourav Ganguly, wife receive death threats

Former Indian captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and his wife Dona Ganguly have received death threats. After receiving threatening letters repeatedly over the past few months, the former cricket star finally approached the police.

On Monday, August 10, Sourav Ganguly filed a written complaint at the Thakurpukur police station in South Kolkata. He currently serves as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Confirming the matter, Kolkata Police said the former Indian cricketer has filed a written complaint with them.

According to a PTI report, police have already launched an investigation to trace the origin of the letters and those behind them.

It is known that anonymous letters had been arriving in Sourav's name at various times over the past six months. While he initially did not pay much attention, he expressed concern after reading one of the two letters that arrived at the CAB office on Monday. In that letter, direct death threats were made against him, his wife Dona and close relatives.

A senior police officer said the complaint has been taken very seriously and police have launched an investigation. The contents of the letters, the mode of delivery and the courier trail are being thoroughly examined to identify the sender and the main culprit.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the threatening letters were sent through courier service. The prime suspect is believed to be from the Belgaria area of North 24 Parganas district.

Police are scrutinising the call records of the suspect's SIM card as part of the investigation. Additionally, officials of the courier company are being contacted to gather detailed information about the parcel consignments. Law enforcement is working to uncover whether all the letters were sent by the same person and the actual motive behind the death threats.
