Eight people, including two children, were killed and 35 injured in an Indian military strike in Pakistan.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chowdhury told the BBC on Wednesday (May 7) morning.

He said the Indian attack hit multiple locations, including a mosque. "This is a clear violation of international law."

The ISPR director general said that India launched "cowardly" missile strikes on Kotli, Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan after midnight on Tuesday. The Pakistani army has already begun retaliating.

India launched the attack amid ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries since 26 people were killed in a gun attack on tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22.

Pakistan's ISPR has said that Pakistan has launched a counterattack in response to India's missile attack. Meanwhile, Pakistani media Geo TV, citing defense sources, reported that the Pakistani Air Force has claimed to have shot down two Indian aircraft.

Geo TV's online report said that the Pakistan Air Force shot down two enemy fighter jets. Security sources described it as a strong response to cross-border aggression.

Meanwhile, the Indian armed forces confirmed that they had targeted nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Jammu and Kashmir as part of 'Operation Sindoor'.
