Popular Indian singer Zubeen Garg, best known for his hit song 'Ya Ali' from the 2006 film Gangster, tragically passed away at the age of 52 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday (September 19).

Zubeen, who gained national fame for his chart-topping track 'Ya Ali', was in Singapore for a scuba diving activity when he fell into the sea. He was rescued and rushed to the ICU, but later succumbed to his injuries.

He had been scheduled to perform at the North East Festival in Singapore on the same day.

Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal confirmed his death on social media.

Born in 1972 in Meghalaya, Zubeen was an Assamese singer whose real name was Zubeen Borthakur. He adopted his stage name by replacing his last name with his gotra, Garg, in the 90s. In 2006, he sang Ya Ali from the film Gangster. The chartbuster's success made him a nationwide success, leading to several Bollywood hits over the years, including 'Subah Subah' and 'Kya Raaz Hai.'

Zubeen's death leaves a significant void in the music industry, particularly in Assam, where he was a beloved cultural icon. His legacy, built on his memorable songs like 'Ya Ali', 'Subah Subah', and 'Kya Raaz Hai', will continue to inspire music lovers across India and beyond.
