India’s historic win against England ends series in 2-2 draw
India achieved a thrilling Test match win over England by a mere 6 runs, marking the smallest winning margin in India's Test cricket history.
With this win, the five-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw. Previously, India's closest Test win was by 13 runs against Australia in Mumbai in 2004. This win has now broken that record.
In the final Test of the series at the Kia Oval in London, India lost the toss and batted first, getting all out for 224 runs. Karun Nair was the top scorer with 57 runs. For England, Gus Atkinson took 5 wickets and Josh Tongue claimed 3.
In reply, England scored 247 runs, gaining a 23-run lead. Zak Crawley scored 64, Harry Brook 53, and Ben Duckett 43. For India, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna each took 4 wickets.
India bounced back strongly in their second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant century (118), while Akash Deep made 66. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar both added fifties, helping India post a total of 396.
England required 374 runs to win, but history at the Oval shows that no team has ever successfully chased such a total. The highest successful chase there was 263 runs, achieved back in 1902.
Despite centuries from Harry Brook (111) and Joe Root (104) putting England in a strong position, after Root’s dismissal at 337, the team quickly lost four wickets for just 30 runs.
England fell short by 6 runs, handing India a memorable and historic victory.
