Gianni Infantino has announced he will stand for re-election as FIFA president. The Swiss football official will run for a new term in the 2027 election.

Infantino's candidacy was formally confirmed after FIFA's next congress electoral calendar was approved. He has been FIFA president since taking office in 2016.

Under Infantino's leadership, FIFA's major international tournaments, including the World Cup, have been expanded, significantly increasing the organisation's revenue. However, his tournament expansions and various policies have also sparked debate within football circles. Several European countries, in particular, have questioned some of FIFA's recent decisions, making strategic discussions among continental football confederations potentially crucial ahead of the 2027 election.

The FIFA presidential election will be held at the general assembly of member federations in March next year. That vote will determine who leads world football's highest governing body for the next term.
