Instagram has launched a new feature to make the user experience faster and more personal. This new feature is called 'Instants'.

Through this feature, users can quickly send pictures to the inbox, which will automatically delete once viewed.

The pictures sent in the new feature will not be permanent like normal posts or stories. The picture will disappear once the recipient views it. If it is not viewed, it will automatically delete itself within a maximum of 24 hours.

The pictures can be sent only to specific people whom the user follows and who follow him back.

There will be no filter or editing options for the picture, so that real moments can be shared. If the recipient wants, s/he can give a direct reaction or reply to the picture. If s/he sends it by mistake, there will be an opportunity to 'undo'. The pictures will be stored in the sender's archive for a maximum of 1 year.

Analysts say the feature is part of Instagram's push to become a more personal communication platform, and will also increase competition with temporary photo-sharing apps like Snapchat.
