International cricket matches at Shahid Chandu Stadium after 20yrs
International cricket is going to be held again at Shahid Chandu Stadium in Bogura after a long period of almost two decades.
It has been announced that the Bangladesh A team vs Zimbabwe A team ODI series will be held at the stadium on June 8 and 10.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam informed reporters after inaugurating 'Natun Kuri Sports-2026' at the stadium on Saturday (May 2) afternoon.
He said that Natun Kuri Sports will play an important role in the sports and cultural development of the country. Through this, talented players will be selected from the grassroots level and opportunities will be created at the national and international levels in the future.
According to sources related to the stadium, no international cricket match has been held at this ground since 2006. In 2023, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) removed this venue from the list of international matches. After that, many of the stadium's equipment was removed and the field's activities almost stopped.
However, after a long movement and demand from the locals, it is reported that the field is being made suitable for hosting international matches again.
Sports people believe that the return of international matches after a long break will bring new life to Bogura's cricket and increase interest in sports among local youth.
