Investor delegation team to visit Bangladesh next week: Sergio Gor

US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor said Bangladesh and the United States have "tremendous potential" to deepen bilateral cooperation, announcing that a delegation of American investors will visit Dhaka next week to explore business opportunities.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon on Saturday (August 1), Gor said the two sides discussed expanding economic engagement and strengthening the broader bilateral partnership.

"I've just concluded a very productive meeting with the prime minister," Gor said. "The United States holds the prime minister in the highest regard. As we discussed, there is tremendous potential in our relationship."

He pointed to Washington's recent decision to lower its travel advisory for Bangladesh, saying the move is intended to encourage both tourism and investment.

"We want more people to visit Bangladesh—not only as tourists but also as investors," he said.

Gor also confirmed that a delegation representing U.S. companies interested in investing in Bangladesh is scheduled to arrive next week.

"The message we want to send is that the opportunities between our two countries are extraordinary," he said. "Whether it's pharmaceuticals or other sectors, the United States and Bangladesh can accomplish a great deal together. We look forward to taking this partnership to the next level."

The envoy arrived in Dhaka on July 30 for a three-day visit.

During the first day of his trip, he held talks with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman. On Friday, Gor travelled to Cox's Bazar to visit Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya, where he observed humanitarian operations and met with refugees.

His meeting with Prime Minister Rahman marked the final major engagement of the visit, which focused on strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic cooperation and discussing regional issues, including the Rohingya crisis.
