Iran has announced alternative routes for vessels navigating the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, citing risks posed by potential naval mines in parts of the waterway.

According to local media reports quoting a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), ships intending to pass through the strait have been advised to follow designated safety protocols and use alternative routes to avoid possible mine-related hazards.

The statement reportedly includes guidance on entry and exit routes, though specific details were not disclosed, reports AFP.

The move comes amid heightened regional tensions, raising fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

Nearly one-fifth of global crude oil supply is transported through the Strait of Hormuz, making any disruption a significant risk to global energy markets.
