Iran attacks US-contracted commercial ship near Hormuz, several injured

Iran has attacked a commercial vessel contracted with the United States with drones and missiles in waters near the Strait of Hormuz. Several crew members of the ship were injured in the attack, which took place earlier this week, US media outlet Fox News reported on Wednesday. Turkey-based news agency Anadolu published the report.

Two sources familiar with the matter, confirming the incident to Fox News, said four Iranian drones and at least one missile were used in the attack. One of the missiles directly struck the ship.

The attack caused minor physical injuries to the ship's crew, as well as problems such as smoke inhalation. The injured are currently being treated in an unidentified Gulf country. Several US personnel were also present on the ship at the time of the incident.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for conducting US military operations in the Middle East, did not immediately respond to Anadolu's request for comment on the matter. The US Naval Forces Central Command also forwarded the question to CENTCOM.

Neither Washington nor Tehran has issued an official statement on the incident.
