Iran claims control over Gulf of Oman after Hormuz,
Iran’s military has claimed control over the Gulf of Oman following its assertion of dominance in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a report by Tasnim News Agency, a senior naval commander said Iranian forces are prepared to take “decisive retaliation” against US troops deployed in nearby waters.
The commander stated that US forces are currently within range of Iran’s missile systems and warned they would be targeted if they enter operational zones. He also claimed that heightened Iranian military drills and missile activities forced the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to move hundreds of miles away from the area.
Iran further asserted that the eastern section of the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman are now fully under its naval control.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, through which roughly 20 per cent of global oil supply is transported. Major exporters including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait rely heavily on the route.
Analysts warn that any prolonged disruption or control of the passage could trigger sharp increases in global oil prices and heighten risks to the global economy.
