Iran claims downing of another US F-35 fighter jet
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed to have shot down a second US F-35 stealth fighter over central Iran.
According to a post by Fars News Agency on Telegram, the jet was destroyed mid-air and crashed to the ground. The fate of the pilot remains unknown.
Mehr News Agency reported that a powerful explosion occurred upon impact, making pilot survival unlikely.
Iranian military sources said their air defense system struck the target with precision. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not issued an official response, though it previously denied similar claims.
Analysts warn that if confirmed, the loss of an F-35—the US military’s most advanced and expensive fighter jet—would be a significant strategic and military setback, raising concerns over the safety of US air operations in the region.
The latest claim comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and US-backed forces, with both sides exchanging conflicting reports.
Iran emphasises the capabilities of its domestically developed air defense systems, while the US maintains that its operations are defensive despite growing domestic criticism over the costly confrontation.
