Iran claims US strikes targeted Bushehr nuclear plant perimeter
Iranian state-affiliated media has claimed that the United States launched a missile strike hitting the perimeter of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in southern Iran.
A report published, citing the deputy governor of Bushehr province, Ehsan Jahanian, stated that a projectile fired by the US hit the outer boundary of the facility on Thursday afternoon. Several other strategic and civilian sites in the province, including the Choghadak military base and a local fishing pier, were also targeted in the afternoon strikes.
The United States has yet to provide any official comment or verification regarding the reported attack.
Meanwhile, international sources reported that several missiles launched from Iran were intercepted and shot down over Jordanian airspace within the last few hours.
Bushehr is Iran's only operational commercial nuclear power station, and the claims of a strike near the facility could heighten regional security concerns. No casualties or specific structural damage to the plant's core barriers have been reported so far.
