Iran confirms deaths of Ali Shamkhani and Pakpour

Long-serving security official and secretary of Iran's Defence Council Ali Shamkhani and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander General Mohammad Pakpour have been killed in US-Israeli strikes.

Iran's state news agency RINA confirmed the information on Sunday, March 1.

The report stated that Iran's supreme leader's top political adviser and Defence Council secretary, along with the IRGC commander-in-chief, were killed in US-Israeli strikes on Tehran.

Semi-official media also confirmed their deaths on the same day.

Earlier, various Iranian media reported that Khamenei had been killed in joint US-Israeli strikes. State broadcaster announced on Sunday morning that "Iran's supreme leader has been martyred."

Meanwhile, two US sources and a source familiar with the matter said Khamenei was meeting with his top advisers at the time of the joint US-Israeli strikes early on Saturday morning.
