Iran conflict could end within weeks, says Rubio
The ongoing conflict with Iran could end within weeks, not months, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, while stressing that diplomatic channels remain open.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Rubio said indirect communication between Tehran and the United States is continuing through mediators despite the absence of direct talks.
He claimed that significant portions of Iran’s air and naval capabilities have already been destroyed, with US forces now focusing on missile launch sites and drone production facilities.
US President Donald Trump warned that Iran’s energy infrastructure could be targeted if a ceasefire is not reached soon.
Rubio reiterated that Iran must abandon its nuclear and missile programmes, describing them as a threat to regional security.
Analysts say Washington is pursuing a dual-track approach, combining military pressure with diplomatic engagement.
