Iran did not attack Turkey, Cyprus or Azerbaijan: Iranian Foreign Ministry
In response to reports of Iranian attacks towards Turkey, Cyprus and Azerbaijan last week, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said "no attacks were launched from Iranian territory" towards these countries. Al Jazeera reported this.
The foreign ministry spokesman made these remarks at a press briefing in Tehran on Monday, March 9.
He indicated that the attack allegations might be "fabricated".
He said, "We have repeatedly warned that the enemy might fabricate stories of some attacks to create rifts between us and other countries."
Baghaei said, "We did not start or provoke this war. This is not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity imposed upon us."
When asked about mediation efforts for a possible ceasefire, he said discussions on such matters are "not relevant" at the moment. Military conflict is ongoing at this moment. Speaking about anything other than defending our homeland at this specific time is not relevant.
