Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel
Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel, state media reported on Saturday (April 25).
The condemned individual, Erfan Kiani, was hanged early in the morning after the country’s Supreme Court upheld his death sentence following the completion of legal procedures, according to reports.
Citing Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, international media said Kiani had been accused of working for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad.
Authorities alleged that he was involved in acts of sabotage and violence during recent nationwide unrest, including vandalism and arson targeting public and private properties. He was also accused of spreading fear in the central city of Isfahan.
Iranian officials described him as a “hired agent” of Mossad engaged in destabilising activities.
This marks the second execution on similar charges in recent weeks, after another individual was put to death on March 18 following conviction on espionage-related allegations.
Iran has repeatedly carried out executions in cases linked to spying and security offences, particularly amid heightened tensions with Israel and ongoing domestic unrest.
