Iran has executed two men convicted over their alleged involvement in anti-government protests and an attempted attack on a military facility in Tehran, according to state-linked media reports on Sunday (April 5).

The executed individuals were identified as Mohammad Amin Biglari and Shahin Vahediparast, whom authorities described as “agents of the enemy.”

The charges included attempting to storm a military site and access an arms depot during the unrest that began in January.

The protests, initially sparked by economic hardship, escalated into a nationwide movement calling for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic, leading to one of the deadliest crackdowns since the 1979 revolution, with thousands reported killed.

Rights group Amnesty International said last week that a teenager, Amir Hossein Hatami, was executed on April 2 at Ghezel Hesar prison. The group had also listed Biglari and Vahediparast among those at risk of execution, along with two others — Ali Fahim and Abolfazl Salehi Siavashani.

Iranian authorities maintain that foreign-backed agents infiltrated the protests with the aim of destabilising the government.
