Iran fires missiles at Kuwait, Bahrain after US strike
Iran has launched missile attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain, with the US military intercepting seven missiles fired towards the two countries, according to Al Jazeera's live blog on Saturday, June 6.
The attack came after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps announced it had targeted "enemy bases in the region." Earlier, the US military said it had shot down four Iranian drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz and struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites on Qeshm Island and Goruk on Iran's southern coast.
Kuwait temporarily closed its airspace as a precautionary measure following the Iranian attacks, with 11 flights of Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways diverted to nearby airports. Civil aviation authorities later announced that air navigation operations resumed at 6:15 am local time after conditions stabilised and risk was eliminated.
Separately, two Lebanese army officers and one soldier were killed in an Israeli attack, which Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun condemned as a "flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international laws and norms." The attack came as Israel issued more forced displacement orders for southern Lebanon.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi accused the IAEA of politicising oversight of Tehran's nuclear programme, claiming Director General Rafael Grossi has overlooked US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
