'Iran fires six missiles at US bases in Qatar'
Iran fired six missiles at US bases in Qatar on Monday, according to Axios.
Shortly before the news broke by Reuters, Qatar shut its airspace amid escalating threats of Iranian retaliation against the United States after Trump's Operation Midnight Hammer on Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday night.
Reuters further reported citing a Western diplomat that there is a credible threat against US-run Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
In related fears, the US assessed a high risk of imminent Iranian retaliation against its forces, which could come as soon as the next day or two, but remains committed to pursuing a diplomatic resolution, reported Reuters citing two officials.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Defence Minister announced on Monday that the military was targeting Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison as part of a new wave of strikes on the Iranian capital.
"The military is conducting strikes of unprecedented intensity against regime institutions and instruments of repression in central Tehran. Among the targets is Evin Prison, which holds political prisoners and dissidents, as well as other regime-linked sites," Katz said in a post on X.
Moreover, AP reported that Russia is prepared to assist Iran in multiple ways, depending on Tehran’s specific needs, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Monday. “Everything depends on what Iran requires,” Peskov told reporters at a briefing. “We’ve offered our mediation efforts — that’s a concrete step.”
He stressed that Moscow’s clear stance on the Iran-Israel conflict also constitutes meaningful support for Tehran. Peskov added that the issue of Iran has featured prominently in recent conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump.
Also, Iran’s underground Fordo nuclear site was reportedly attacked again Monday after the US struck three Iranian nuclear facilities Sunday — including Fordo — using powerful bunker-buster bombs, prompting Tehran to launch drones and missiles at Israel. Iran warned the US its forces now had a “free hand” to retaliate.
The IAEA expects “very heavy damage” at Fordo, said another AP report. Explosions were heard in Jerusalem, and Israeli defenses responded to attacks on Haifa and Tel Aviv.
Global leaders urged de-escalation, while the EU and Germany renewed calls for diplomacy and resumed US-Iran negotiations.
