Iran halts tanker traffic through Strait of Hormuz again
Iran has once again suspended oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz following Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.
According to Iranian media reports, tanker movement through the strait came to a complete halt from Wednesday afternoon (April 8).
The move was taken after Israel allegedly violated a ceasefire agreement by launching fresh attacks on Lebanese territory.
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported that the decision was made immediately after the strikes, a claim also confirmed by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency.
The latest Israeli attacks reportedly killed at least 254 people in Lebanon, with another 1,165 injured, according to data from the country’s civil defense authorities.
Earlier on Wednesday, Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement, stating that Iran had agreed to the terms. At that time, two oil tankers were able to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz with Tehran’s approval.
