Iran has no plans for fresh talks with US: Al Jazeera
Iran has no plans to resume negotiations with the United States at this stage, according to remarks from the country’s foreign ministry, as cited by Al Jazeera.
A foreign ministry spokesperson said Tehran has no intention of attending any meeting in Islamabad, dismissing reports of a aimed at easing tensions between the the two nations.
In its live coverage, Al Jazeera reported that Iran believes the United States has failed to learn from past experiences, warning that such an approach will not yield positive outcomes.
Earlier, multiple international media outlets had suggested that US and Iranian delegation team could meet in Islamabad to discuss a ceasefire and de-escalation, with reports even indicating a possible visit by US Vice President J D Vance leading a delegation.
However, Iran’s stance has cast doubt over the potential talks. State-linked media in Tehran said Iran would not engage in negotiations unless the US lifts its naval blockade.
Tensions have escalated in recent days following the seizure of an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel by US forces, prompting Tehran to impose a partial blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to BBC, the incident has further complicated prospects for dialogue.
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency claimed that Iranian forces have targeted a US military vessel, adding to concerns of further escalation.
The rising tensions have already impacted global markets, pushing up oil prices and weighing on stock markets worldwide.
