According to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, four explosive-laden drones were fired toward the oil facility early Monday (March 9). Saudi air defense systems intercepted and destroyed the drones before they could strike the site.
The latest incident marks the fourth attempt to target the Shaybah oil field within nine days.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia, a key US ally in the region hosting several American military bases, had issued a strong warning to Iran on Sunday, stating, continued attacks on neighbouring countries’ oil infrastructure could lead to Iran’s “greatest defeat” in the ongoing conflict.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia made the warning.
Less than 24 hours after the warning, Iran reportedly launched the latest strike targeting the strategic oil facility.
