Iran leave peace message in dressing room with a red-ink tribute to Minab victims
Iran’s national football team left a handwritten message promoting peace and unity in the dressing room following their goalless draw against Belgium in the FIFA World Cup, with a red-ink tribute also paying respect to victims of a deadly attack in Minab.
After their second Group G match at the Los Angeles Stadium, the Iranian squad reportedly left a note behind before departing the venue, ending with the message: “May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations.”
The letter, according to team sources, reflected Iran’s pride in representing the country on the global stage, stating that from ancient Persia to modern Iran, its national identity and spirit remain intact.
The team also expressed gratitude for the hospitality received in Los Angeles and appreciation for Iranian supporters in the United States.
A separate section of the message, written in red ink, commemorated victims of a bombing at a school in Minab, where 168 people were reportedly killed on the first day of joint strikes involving the United States and Israel.
The gesture came amid a politically sensitive backdrop to the tournament, with reports noting that this is the first time in the 96-year history of the World Cup that a participating nation is competing while being in a state of conflict involving the host nation.
Iran had earlier considered withdrawing from the tournament due to travel restrictions and security concerns following tensions, but later overcame visa and logistical issues to participate in their fourth consecutive World Cup.
On the field, Iran drew 2-2 with New Zealand in their opening match before holding Belgium to a goalless draw. They will face Egypt in their final group-stage match in Seattle on Saturday.
