Iran moves to UN seeking war compensation from five Arab states
Iran has formally sought compensation from five Arab countries, accusing them of assisting US-Israeli attacks on its territory, according to a letter submitted to the United Nations (UN).
In the letter dated April 13, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, wrote to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, alleging that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan violated international obligations by supporting the strikes.
The countries should bear responsibility for damages incurred by Iran during the conflict, he wrote in the letter.
The complain follows joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which reportedly left thousands dead and injured. Tehran later launched retaliatory attacks targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan and several Gulf states hosting US military bases.
Later, a two-week ceasefire was subsequently announced to ease the tensions.
Meanwhile, indirect talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad on April 12 lasted for 21 hours but ended without any breakthrough.
