Iran has partially reopened its primary international gateway, Imam Khomeini International Airport, after nearly two months of closure, with limited flight operations resuming on Saturday (April 25).

Located in the capital Tehran, the airport is not yet fully operational. For now, a small number of passenger flights to Muscat, Istanbul and Medina are being operated, according to Mehr News.

The airport was shut down on February 28 after United States and Israel launched joint airstrikes on multiple Iranian cities amid escalating tensions over Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes.

Following around 40 days of conflict, a 14-day ceasefire was declared on April 8. On April 21, US President Donald Trump announced an indefinite extension of the truce.

The partial reopening of the airport just days after the ceasefire extension signals a cautious move toward restoring normal air connectivity and easing regional tensions.
