Iran's national airline, Iran Air, is set to resume domestic flights from Wednesday, after remaining suspended for nearly 50 days. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported this on Tuesday.

The first flight will depart from Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport for Mashhad at 10:00 am on Wednesday. The return flight will land back in Tehran at 12:30 pm the same day.

Civil aviation across the country had been suspended after Iran closed its airspace following joint US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

The situation began to normalise on Saturday when the eastern airspace was opened for international flights.

On Monday, Iran's Civil Aviation Authority permitted passenger flights to operate from Tehran's Imam Khomeini and Mehrabad airports. Flights will also resume from Saturday at the airports of Urmia, Abadan, Kermanshah, Shiraz, Kerman, Rasht, Yazd, Zahedan, Gorgan and Birjand.
