Iran has demanded compensation from five Gulf region countries in the Middle East, accusing them of assisting the United States and Israel. The countries are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan.

Iran's Ambassador to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani made the demand in a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Jamal Fares Alrowaie on Tuesday, April 14. In the letter, he alleged that these five Middle Eastern countries violated their international obligations by cooperating with the US and Israel.

The letter further stated, "Since they have violated international obligations by cooperating with the US and Israel, the responsibility for the damages in this war also falls upon them. Therefore, the Iranian government is demanding compensation from these five states."

No response to the letter has yet been received from the offices of the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council President.

Iran has been in conflict with the United States for two decades over its nuclear programme and missile programme. Talks between Tehran and Washington on these two issues ran for 21 days from February 6 to February 27. Those talks ended on February 27 without any agreement.

The following day, on February 28, the US military launched 'Operation Epic Fury' in Iran. In coordination with Washington, Israel also launched a military operation in Iran called 'Operation Roaring Lion' at the same time.

On the very first day of the Iran-US-Israel war, Ayatollah Khamenei, who had been Iran's supreme leader for 37 years, was killed. Several other important and senior officials of Iran's ruling Islamic Republic government were also killed in the US-Israeli strikes.

Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told semi-official Tasnim News that the country has suffered economic and infrastructural losses totalling $270 billion since the start of the war.
