Iran team clears last hurdle as US grants visas ahead of World Cup kickoff
Iran’s national football team players have received US visa approvals just days before the start of the FIFA World Cup, easing fears over their participation in the tournament amid earlier uncertainty and diplomatic complications.
However, not all team officials have yet been granted visas, leaving some logistical and administrative issues unresolved for the full delegation, sources said.
Team officials confirmed that Iran had shifted its pre-tournament training camp from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, due to security and visa-related concerns. The squad is expected to complete preparations there before travelling to the United States for their matches.
Iran have been placed in Group G and will begin their campaign on June 15 against New Zealand in Los Angeles. They will also face Belgium in the same city, before concluding their group-stage fixtures against Egypt in Seattle.
US authorities have said all delegations are subject to enhanced security screening, adding that any individuals with suspected military affiliations will not be granted entry.
Iranian football officials said the team’s participation in the tournament remains a priority despite geopolitical tensions, stressing that sport continues to play a key role in maintaining international engagement.
The development ensures Iran’s presence at the World Cup remains on track, even as broader diplomatic sensitivities continue to shape their preparations.
