Iran will enter today's talks with the United States with “complete distrust,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said, underscoring deep tensions ahead of high-level negotiations.

The remarks were made during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

Araghchi said Iran would remain firm in defending its national interests and the rights of its people, accusing Washington of a history of broken promises and diplomatic breaches of trust.

He indicated that Tehran would take a hardline stance in the upcoming discussions and would not compromise on issues concerning national sovereignty.

The comments come ahead of key Iran-US talks scheduled to begin in Islamabad on Saturday, aimed at easing weeks of heightened tensions.

Analysts say the strong rhetoric highlights the deep mistrust between the two sides and raises uncertainty over the prospects for a breakthrough in the negotiations.
