US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is actually interested in reaching a deal, but is afraid to express that interest amid the ongoing war situation in the Middle East.

Speaking at a Republican Party fundraising dinner in Washington DC on Wednesday, March 25, Trump said Iran is currently negotiating and wants to reach a deal, but they cannot say so openly.

According to Trump, Iranian officials fear that if they express such a position, they could become targets of attacks within their own country. They are also apprehensive about US military action.

Earlier, the White House said talks with Iran have not yet concluded. Although Tehran did not immediately accept the 15-point proposal presented by the US, efforts are being made to find a solution through alternative means.

US officials have said efforts are underway to arrange a possible meeting in Pakistan, where various paths to ending the war could be discussed.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said messages have been exchanged with Washington through mediators. However, he made it clear that this cannot be called direct 'negotiations'.
