Iranian parliament approves proposal to close strait of Hormuz
Iran’s parliament has approved a proposal to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global trade. The decision was made on Sunday local time, though it is not yet final. The final authority on the matter rests with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, according to a report by NDTV.
Approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply is transported through the Strait of Hormuz. Esmail Kowsari, a commander in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), stated that the proposal is currently under consideration and will be implemented if necessary.
Iran's state-run media outlet Press TV reported that following the parliament’s initial approval, the proposal now awaits a final decision by the Supreme National Security Council.
