An anchor of Iran’s state television broke down in tears while announcing the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei following joint US-Israeli strikes.

During the live broadcast, the visibly emotional presenter struggled to deliver the formal statement confirming Khamenei’s death. “God is Great. With deep sorrow, we inform the Iranian nation that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been martyred in a joint criminal attack by the United States and the Zionist regime,” the anchor said before breaking down.

Sounds of crying were also reportedly heard from outside the studio.

Iran’s government has declared 40 days of national mourning, while senior officials vowed retaliation.

Separately, a presenter on Press TV condemned the attack as “criminal” and warned of severe retaliation. Referring to the operation as “Operation Epic Fury,” she said on air that US President Donald Trump would face unprecedented consequences. “This is not over. Revenge is coming, and it will come very soon,” she said.

Iranian authorities also confirmed that several members of Khamenei’s family were killed in the strikes, including his daughter, grandson, daughter-in-law and son-in-law.

Additionally, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammad Pakpour were reported killed in the attacks.
