Iranians took steet over Trump’s peace deal claim
Thousands of people took to the streets in Iran after US President Donald Trump claimed that a long-anticipated peace agreement with Tehran would be signed on Sunday (June 14).
Trump, in a social media post, said the agreement could be finalised within hours and suggested that, if implemented, it would ensure unrestricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
He also indicated that the deal could mark a new phase in US–Iran relations.
However, Iranian officials swiftly pushed back against the claim. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said there were no plans to sign any agreement on Sunday, though discussions could continue in the coming days.
Iranian state-linked channels and social media posts showed large crowds gathering in central Tehran, including outside the Foreign Ministry, where protesters reportedly voiced opposition to any potential compromise with Washington.
Some demonstrations also targeted Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Footage circulating online suggested that protesters carried portraits of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei while chanting slogans rejecting rapprochement with the United States.
