US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran's new leadership wants to speak with the US administration and he has agreed to do so.

In an interview with The Atlantic magazine on Sunday, March 1, Trump said, "They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will be talking to them. They should have done it sooner. They should have given what was very practical and easy to do sooner. They waited too long."

Trump did not specify when the talks would begin.

The United States and Israel carried out surprise strikes on Iran on Saturday, February 28, killing more than 40 leaders including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran quickly established new leadership following the attack.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held three rounds of talks with US representatives last month, with the most recent discussion taking place last Friday. They were scheduled to meet again next Friday. However, the US launched the surprise attack before that, in coordination with Israel.
