Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei narrowly survived a missile attack allegedly carried out by Israel and the United States, according to a leaked audio obtained by British media outlet The Telegraph.

The attack, reportedly targeting Ali Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials, hit the compound at 9:32am (local time) February 28.

The audio reveals that Khamenei was walking in the garden of his residence minutes before a ballistic missile struck his home on the compound. His brief exit from the building prevented fatal injuries.

Majhar Hosseini, head of protocol for Ali Khamenei, reportedly detailed the incident during a March 12 meeting in Tehran with top Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders.

The Telegraph says it independently verified the authenticity of the recording.

The audio indicates that while Mojtaba Khamenei sustained minor leg injuries, several family members—including his wife and son—were killed on site.

IRGC military chief Mohammad Shirazi also died in the explosion.

The strike occurred at a compound housing Ali Khamenei and his family, where top security officials were present at the time. Reports suggest that alongside Ali Khamenei, IRGC chief Mohammad Pakpour and Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh were also killed in the assault.

Hossein emphasised in the recording that the coordinated attacks were intended to eliminate the Khamenei family and other senior officials.
