Iran's President to visit India for BRICS summit

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit India to attend the 2026 BRICS summit, according to Asian News International (ANI), citing Iranian sources.

The 18th BRICS summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi in September, with India presiding over the event. The theme of the summit has been set as 'Building the Foundation for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainable Development'.

During a BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024, Pezeshkian had met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines, discussing various bilateral and regional issues.

Iran became a full member of BRICS in 2024 alongside Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates. With Indonesia joining the bloc the following year, the number of full BRICS members now stands at 11.

Earlier this year, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited India in June to attend a BRICS foreign ministers' meeting. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, he said there was scope for India to play a greater role in de-escalating the volatile situation in West Asia.

Araghchi said there is no military solution to the ongoing crisis, and that reaching an understanding through dialogue is the only effective way to resolve the conflict.
