Iraq aim to spring surprises with fighting spirit and team cohesion

Sports Desk

Iraq is one of the football powers in Asia. Known for their fighting spirit, disciplined football and team cohesion, they have the ability to put pressure on opponents in important matches. They are currently ranked 57th in the FIFA rankings. After winning the intercontinental play-off against Paraguay, they qualified for the World Cup finals.

World Cup record and participation

Iraq have participated in the FIFA World Cup only once, in 1986. However, they have memorable successes in Asian football, winning the AFC Asian Cup in 2007.

Strengths

Iraq's greatest strength is their team cohesion and fighting spirit. The entire team participates in attack and defence, helping them play organised football. They work hard in midfield and can fight hard for possession. They can also be dangerous from quick counter-attacks and set-pieces.

Weaknesses

Iraq have less experience playing against top teams, leading to mistakes under pressure. There is a lack of consistent finishing in attack and creativity in midfield. If defensive coordination breaks down, strong opponents can easily create chances.

Key players
In goal, Jalal Hassan plays for Al-Zawraa. In defence, Rebin Solaka plays for Port FC in Thailand. In midfield, Amir Al-Ammari plays for Cracovia in Poland. In attack, Ayman Hussein plays for Al-Karma, with his goal-scoring ability and physical strength being the team's major weapon.

Group opponents

Iraq's opponents in Group I are France, Senegal and Norway. The biggest challenge will be against France. Against Senegal, Iraq must survive the physical battle. Maintaining midfield control against Norway will also be difficult.

Prospects for this World Cup

Iraq's fighting spirit and team unity can put any opponent to a tough test. If they can maintain defensive solidity and capitalise on attacking opportunities, the possibility of springing surprises in the group stage cannot be ruled out.
