IRGC says it attacked US unmanned speedboat in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said that it attacked a US military unmanned surface vessel (USV) after it allegedly tried to enter a restricted area of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued early Sunday (September 6), the IRGC said its naval forces were closely monitoring hostile activities in the strategically vital waterway and would respond firmly to any perceived threat.

The force said the Strait of Hormuz was currently under the control of Iran and warned that any hostile action in the area would draw a strong response.

“The aggressive United States should know that it has no option but to leave the region and stop its provocations,” the IRGC said in the statement, published by Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

The claim comes after the IRGC said it had earlier launched ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and a Navy destroyer. It claimed both warships were damaged and subsequently left the area.

According to the IRGC, the two US vessels had been pursuing Iranian ships and taking part in a maritime blockade when they came under missile attack.

The Iranian force also claimed that US Central Command (CENTCOM) had acknowledged an attack targeting two naval vessels, saying the US statement confirmed the Iranian operation.
