Israel has announced the closure of the United Kingdom's consulate in Jerusalem. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar made the announcement on Tuesday (September 8).

Speaking in Hebrew, Gideon Sa'ar said Israel would shut down the British consulate located in Jerusalem. However, he did not immediately disclose the detailed reasons behind the decision to close the consulate.

According to information from the British government, the British Consulate-General in Jerusalem represents the UK government in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. At the same time, the consulate also works on issues related to the UK's political, trade, security and economic interests with Palestine.

Following Israel's decision, no immediate details were available on how the consulate's activities would be carried out, or whether any alternative arrangement would be put in place instead.
