US President Donald Trump has said that Israel and Lebanon’s armed group Hezbollah have agreed to halt cross-border attacks after separate talks with both sides.

In a post on his Truth Social platform late Monday (June 1), Trump said he held a “very productive” conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and also spoke with representatives of Hezbollah.

He claimed both sides had agreed to suspend military actions and avoid further escalation.

Trump further stated that no additional troops would be deployed to Beirut and that forces previously preparing for deployment had been ordered to stand down. He also said Hezbollah had assured the United States that it would refrain from launching attacks on Israel.

Shortly afterward, the Lebanese Embassy in Washington said Hezbollah had accepted a US-backed proposal under which Israel would halt strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs in exchange for a suspension of Hezbollah attacks against Israel. The arrangement could later be expanded to cover other parts of Lebanon, according to the statement.

Despite signs of de-escalation, Israel maintained a cautious stance. Netanyahu warned that Israeli forces would continue targeting Hezbollah if attacks on Israeli cities and civilians persisted. He also indicated that military operations in southern Lebanon would remain ongoing.

Meanwhile, tensions along the border have not fully subsided. Hezbollah said it launched drones and artillery fire at Israeli troops and armored vehicles near two villages in northern Israel. The Israeli military, for its part, reported intercepting two missiles fired from Lebanese territory.

Lebanon’s state news agency also reported fresh Israeli strikes in parts of southern Lebanon, including a powerful explosion in the town of Debbine, underscoring the fragility of the emerging truce efforts.
