Israel launches strikes on 4 Yemeni sites
Israel has carried out severe air strikes on three ports and a power plant in Yemen, reports Reuters.
The targeted areas include the Houthi-controlled ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif in Hodeidah province, as well as the Ras Kantib power station.
This marks the first Israeli attack in Yemen in nearly a month.
A Houthi spokesperson claimed that their air defense systems successfully repelled the Israeli strike using locally-made missiles.
According to local residents, the main power plant was incapacitated by the Israeli strikes, plunging the entire city into darkness.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz referred to these attacks as part of "Operation Back Flag" in a social media post. "The fate of Yemen and Tehran is one," Katz added. "Anyone attempting to harm Israel would get strong consequences."
Since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, the Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthi group has been launching attacks on Israel and ships in the Red Sea, stating their actions are in solidarity with Palestinians.
