Israel strikes Iran’s Isfahan nuclear research center
Israel conducted an airstrike on the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center, a key nuclear research facility in Iran. The deputy governor of the province confirmed the attack on Saturday (June 21).
Fars News Agency reported that several other sites in Isfahan province were also targeted. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
According to Fars, quoting the deputy governor, Iran’s air defense systems managed to intercept most of the missiles, but some did hit their targets. The loud explosions were mostly caused by air defense responses.
The official also stated that no harmful gas or radiation was released from the nuclear facility. However, for safety reasons, the public has been advised to avoid the area.
Mehr News Agency reported that Akbar Salehi, deputy head of security and law enforcement at the Isfahan governor’s office, said that although Israel carried out multiple attacks, oil refineries were not among the targets.
It is worth noting that Israel had launched a major attack on this nuclear center at the beginning of the conflict. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, that attack caused significant damage.
However, a spokesperson for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said the damage was limited. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that at least four buildings in the nuclear facility were severely damaged in the attack.
