Israel warns citizens against travel to Bangladesh, several other countries

Israel's National Security Council has warned of the risk of attacks by armed groups and individuals on Israelis in various countries around the world. As a result, it has advised Israelis to avoid travelling to or staying in Bangladesh and several other nations.

In an advisory published on Sunday, the council said the risk of attacks on Israelis could increase around several important Jewish religious holidays in the coming months. The ongoing conflict with Iran, Lebanon's Hezbollah and the Palestinian armed group Hamas is expected to further heighten these risks.

Israeli media outlet Jerusalem Post reported that the warning was issued based on a new assessment of security risks for Israelis.

The advisory noted that large-scale protests could take place around the world in October 2026, marking the third anniversary of Hamas's October 7 attacks. Some of these protests could turn violent against Israelis, the council said.

The National Security Council claimed that Hamas is actively working to carry out attacks on Israelis in Europe and elsewhere. Yemen-based Houthis have also threatened attacks against Israelis on the African continent.

According to the council's assessment, countries near Iran are the most dangerous for Israelis. It highlighted Azerbaijan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates as areas of particular concern.

Additionally, Israelis were advised to avoid Jordan, Qatar, Somaliland and Egypt, especially the Sinai Peninsula. Those already present in these countries were advised to leave, and those in transit were advised not to leave the airport.

The council also stated that travel to Iraq, Kurdistan, Yemen, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia is legally prohibited for Israelis, with restrictions also applying to dual nationals.

Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya, Algeria and Somalia were also listed as high-risk countries, with the council advising Israelis not to travel to these destinations.

Bangladesh does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and there is no regular travel of Israelis to the country. Despite this, Bangladesh was included in the global risk assessment list.
