Israeli airstrikes across Gaza kill 19

At least 19 Palestinians were killed and several others injured in a series of Israeli air and drone strikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday (August 2), according to Palestinian health officials.

The attacks, marking one of the deadliest single days in recent weeks, hit residential buildings, displacement camps and vehicles in multiple locations, including Gaza City, Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah and Jabalia, officials said.

One of the deadliest strikes targeted a residential building in the Al-Susi Towers area of western Gaza City, where three members of the same family were killed. According to Al-Shifa Hospital, the victims were Abdullah Abu Taif, 33, his 29-year-old pregnant wife Abir Anan, and their five-year-old son Azzam.

In Al-Qarara, northwest of Khan Younis, another airstrike destroyed an apartment, killing three members of the Al-Hamas family. Mahmoud Al-Hamas, his wife Fatima, and their infant daughter were killed, while three others were wounded, according to Nasser Hospital.

In central Gaza's Deir al-Balah, 68-year-old Kamo Abu Muaileq and his 59-year-old wife Huda were killed when their home was struck. In a separate attack in the same area, two brothers riding a motorcycle were also killed, medical sources said.

Elsewhere, one person was killed in a strike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, while another attack on a tent sheltering displaced civilians in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis left one person dead and at least five others injured.

In western Gaza City's Rimal neighbourhood, an Israeli drone strike on a displacement camp killed two people. A separate strike targeting a vehicle elsewhere in the city claimed four more lives, according to local health authorities.

Palestinian health officials said the latest wave of attacks has pushed the daily death toll to at least 19, making it the highest single-day casualty figure reported in recent weeks.

The Israeli military had not issued an immediate statement on the strikes.

The latest escalation comes amid continued fighting in Gaza, with mounting civilian casualties prompting renewed international concern over the humanitarian situation in the enclave.
