At least 39 people, including children, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across multiple areas of Lebanon over the past 24 hours, according to Lebanese authorities.

The strikes, carried out on Saturday (May 9), hit several locations in southern Lebanon, where the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted repeated air operations.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said at least seven people, including a child, were killed and 15 others injured in a strike on the southern town of Saksakieh.

In Nabatieh, a drone strike hit a motorcycle three times, killing a Syrian national and critically injuring his 12-year-old daughter.

Lebanese officials said more than 120 people, including women and children, have been killed in Israeli strikes over the past week alone. Since March 2, the total death toll has risen to 2,795.

The Israeli military said its operations are aimed at destroying military infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah, and not targeting civilians.

Hezbollah has also launched retaliatory drone and rocket attacks into northern Israel, further escalating cross-border tensions.

Despite a ceasefire announcement on April 16 by then U.S. President Donald Trump, fighting has continued on the ground.

Reports also say Israeli forces maintain positions in parts of southern Lebanon near the border, with widespread destruction of villages raising concerns from human rights groups over possible violations of international law.
