Israeli attacks kill 62,744 Palestinians in Gaza, 300 left to starve
Another 64 Palestinians were killed and at least 308 injured in a single day in attacks by Israeli forces across Gaza. In addition, 11 more people, including two children, have died from forced starvation and malnutrition in the besieged valley.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the death toll in the last 22 months since the war began on October 7, 2023, has reached 62,744, with at least 158,259 injured. On the other hand, 300 people, 117 of whom are children, have died of starvation in the enclave declared by the United Nations as suffering from a full-scale famine.
Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported that Israeli forces have intensified their ground operations to seize control of the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. By Monday evening (August 24), they had penetrated deeper into the Sabra area of Gaza City, the largest urban center in the valley. Troops are advancing towards Jabalia in the north, continuing their offensive to capture the city and forcibly evict nearly a million residents. In addition, air, drone, and bomb attacks have also intensified.
Al Jazeera, citing medical sources, reported that 28 of the deaths in the previous 24 hours as of Monday evening were from Israeli soldiers who had gone to collect humanitarian aid at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) relief center and killed 184 people, while 184 were injured. This brings the number of aid seekers killed since the establishment of the Israeli- and US-backed GHF on May 27 to 2,123, and more than 15,615 injured.
