Israeli attacks kill over 65,000 in Gaza, 435 die of starvation
The bodies of 79 more people killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza in the past 24 hours have been brought to hospitals, and at least 228 people have been injured. As a result, in the nearly two years since the start of the war, the death toll has risen to 65,141, with at least 165,925 people injured.
The Gaza Health Ministry said four new deaths, including a child, brought the death toll from Israeli-induced famine and malnutrition in the besieged enclave to 435, 147 of whom are children. Of these, 157 people, including 32 children, have died since the UN-backed Hunger Monitoring System (IPC) declared northern Gaza a famine zone last month.
The Turkish news agency Anadolu News reported that as of Wednesday evening (September 17), all 70 of the dead had died in Gaza City due to shelling and bombing by Israeli forces. Nine other aid seekers were killed and at least 33 injured when Israeli forces opened fire on them while they were receiving humanitarian aid from the Israeli- and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
The real number of dead and injured could be higher, Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported, citing the Health Ministry. Many people are trapped under the rubble, but rescue efforts are being hampered by a lack of necessary equipment and manpower.
