Italy are one win away from securing a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after reaching the UEFA playoff final. The four-time world champions defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 in the semifinal to keep their hopes alive. Italy will now face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the playoff final on March 31. A victory in that match will confirm their qualification for the World Cup. So far, 39 teams have qualified for the tournament, including 12 from Europe such as England, France, Germany and Spain. The remaining European spots will be decided through the playoffs. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
