At least 54 people were injured in a bomb explosion at a mosque in Jakarta during Friday prayers, authorities said.

The blast occurred at a mosque inside a school complex in the Kelapa Gading area of northern Jakarta on November 7.

Footage aired on local television showed the school complex cordoned off by police, with multiple ambulances at the scene.

Police said several victims were in critical condition, with many suffering burn injuries.

Jakarta City Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri told local media that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion.

Despite the blast, the mosque building reportedly sustained minimal structural damage.
